چکیده

On September 30, 2003, existing hazardous waste combustors (HWCs) began operating under the HWC Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) standards. The HWC MACT standards include recordkeeping and reporting requirements that are typically more extensive than previous facility requirements. Facilities are required to keep detailed records of items such as emission exceedances, startups, shutdowns, and malfunctions. Additionally, there are reporting requirements throughout the MACT regulations, some of which require immediate action. The recordkeeping and reporting burden may be one of the most significant changes to facility operations under the HWC MACT standards. This paper will explore the synergies between the HWC MACT requirements and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Management Systems. The discussion will focus on how HWC MACT compliance fits within this philosophy and will describe tools that can be used to facilitate its implementation. Practical examples will be provided to show how information management systems can aid in thorough and cost effective administration of HWC MACT compliance issues.

Appendix I: Reduced Risks to Children's Health

Reductions in risks to children's health comprise an important part of the benefits analysis for the Hazardous Waste Combustion (HWC) MACT standards. The risk analysis specifically targets children in estimating risks from HWC facility emissions. Additionally, recent initiatives of the EPA and other branches of the federal government have emphasized the necessity of addressing the subject of en...

Gendered Risk Perceptions Associated with Human-Wildlife Conflict: Implications for Participatory Conservation

This research aims to foster discourse about the extent to which gender is important to consider within the context of participatory approaches for biological conservation. Our objectives are to: (1) gender-disaggregate data about stakeholders' risk perceptions associated with human-wildlife conflict (HWC) in a participatory conservation context, and (2) highlight insights from characterizing g...

MACT: A Manageable Minimization Allocation System

BACKGROUND Minimization is a case allocation method for randomized controlled trials (RCT). Evidence suggests that the minimization method achieves balanced groups with respect to numbers and participant characteristics, and can incorporate more prognostic factors compared to other randomization methods. Although several automatic allocation systems exist (e.g., randoWeb, and MagMin), the minim...
